It is important to network with companies and charities both to have strong working relationships and to have presence within the city. As well as working closely with Louise Sharland and the Careers Team, the SU has been reaching out to collaborate with local businesses and running events to promote them, such as the Volunteering and Careers Fair and Creative Lab. Over the past couple of months, we’ve been working closely with local companies First Class Magazine, Business and Student Exchange, Atlantic Youth Creative Hub, Plymouth Arts Cinema as well as businesses including Yena and The Float App.
First Class Magazine have been supporting students in selecting their artwork and writing to be featured in the magazine, as well as collaborating with the SU for our World Book Day event to give out free discount counts to students who buy a book from us. We’ve also been working closely with Plymouth Arts Cinema to run film events as well as supporting Film Club for their weekly screenings.
In December, the SU teamed up with the Learning Lab and AYCH to create a new kind of event, a Creative Lab, with speakers followed by free pizza and networking. Events like these help us to advertise more opportunities to you all, which is why we’re trying to do more like it this year. After the Easter break, I’m hosting a Local Creative Enterprise Fair to give the opportunity to find work experience, volunteer opportunities, graduate jobs or simply local businesses to support or use the services of. Later on in the day, there will be a talk from the co-founder online global art networking community, Talenthouse, Maya Bogle.
Head along to network with some local businesses on April 21st in the Students Union from 12 until 2pm.
Best, Harriet Moore
Marketing and Enterprise Lead
