As Earth Day approaches, it's the perfect time to get outdoors and show that we care! Here are some ideas for celebrating nature and making a positive impact on the environment.
1. Plant a Tree or Adopt some Coral
Plant a tree! Gather your friends, family, or community members and organize a tree-planting event in a local park or green space. Not only will you be contributing to the environment, but you'll also create a lasting legacy of your commitment to sustainability. If you can't plant a tree yourself, there are charities you can donate to that will plant one for you!
If you want to send some love to the ocean this Earth Day, you could adopt some coral from Coral Gardeners. They have a range of different species you can choose from and you get to name the piece that you choose! So far they've planted 30,980 corals (as of June 2024).
2. Litter Picking
Join us on our Earth Day litter pick. We've got gloves, bags, and trash pickers (and good vibes), we'll have a chat and collect litter and keep our natural spaces clean. Litter picking makes the environment safer for local wildlife and going on a walk does wonders for your overall wellbeing.
3. Go Plastic-Free for a Day
Challenge yourself by going plastic-free for a day. Avoid single-use plastics such as straws, water bottles, and plastic bags, and opt for reusable alternatives instead. You can also bring your own shopping bags and containers when buying groceries to minimize waste. By reducing your plastic footprint, you'll contribute to a healthier planet and inspire others to make sustainable choices.
5. Nature Hike or Picnic
Spend some quality time outdoors and head out on a hike or picnic with your friends. Check out the Hoe, Mount Edgcumbe or Central Park for some great green spaces. Pack a picnic using reusable containers and utensils, and grab a frizbee or football and play some games.
If you have any more ideas, drop them in the comments! Earth Day is happening on the 22nd April. Make sure you celebrate! We can all make a difference in protecting our environment and preserving the wonders of nature for generations to come.
