The who's who of local open mic nights and how to get involved! Please note that all of these open mics are for poets, some of them also encourage musicians and comedians.
All+ Open mic | @ladyoftheseaevents | Facebook
With 15 minute time slots for music, spoken word, comedy or poetry, All + is an open mic night for performers of under-represented genders. Hosted at Nowhere Inn (just behind Studio 11) and starting at 8pm. The remaining 2023 dates are listed below:
Tuesday 19th September
Tuesday 10th October
Tuesday 14th November
Tuesday 12th December
There's a mixed crowd with casual drinkers as well as those in attendance for the night which means you get to connect with other artists whilst expanding your audience to people who might otherwise never come across it. It's a super relaxed, casual group so it's a great place to get started. You can contact Sam on Instagram or Facebook to book a slot or ask more questions or just come along and sign up on the night!

QueerOutLoud | @queeroutloud
QueerOutLoud, the South West's Queer Creative Network, hosts a Spoken Word, Poetry and Acoustic open mic for Queer performers. They happen on the second Wednesday of every month (September's however, is happening on Sunday 17th) and are often held at Minerva cafe (not the pub) though it is a rolling location. The atmosphere is really warm and inviting - it's such a calm and supportive community and definitely a safe space for new performers too. Plus there's food and drinks available from Minerva - what's not to love?
QueerOutLoud also run a shop at The Plot to share work by local Queer Artists, poets and Musicians so get down there and check it out!

Poetry @ the PPL | @theppluk
Poetry at the PPL is hosted at the Plymouth Proprietary Library (full address below) once a month running from 7:30-9pm. This event is fun because there are two featured poets each night and then a 'Pull a name from a hat' system is used for open mic performances! And the library itself has brilliant vibes.
To attend the event, book on Eventbrite for a small donation. (please make sure you update the event you look at on eventbrite if you are reading this later than Aug 17th.)
