10 Top Tips to Start Reading More

It can be tough to remember reading as a pastime if your studies are consuming you so, after celebrating World Book Day a last week, lets take a look at some ways to re-spark your joy in reading as well as some top tips for academic reading.


One: Establish some time each day dedicated reading. Whether it's half an hour before bed or 5 minutes during your morning coffee, consistency is key to building a reading habit.


Two: Challenge yourself by setting reading goals, be it the number of books per month or a certain genre to explore. Celebrate each milestone reached and remember to make them attainable to stay motivated!


Three: Embrace the mantra of 'never leave home without a book.' Utilise those idle moments waiting in line or commuting to sneak in some extra reading time.


Four: Engage in discussions, share recommendations, and gain new perspectives by joining a book club. It's a fantastic way to stay motivated and diversify your reading selections. We have a Book Club Society here at AUP or you can look into apps like Storygraph or GoodReads to find an online community.


Five: Expand your worldview by reading works from a diverse range of authors. Explore different cultures, experiences, and voices to enrich your reading journey.


Six: Escape the monotony by varying your reading locations. Whether it's a cosy nook at home or a bustling café, changing your environment can reignite your reading passion.


Seven: Explore reading apps that offer personalized recommendations, track your progress, and connect with fellow readers. It's a modern approach to enhance your reading experience.


Eight: Give yourself time to reflect on what you've read. Taking short breaks allows for better retention and appreciation of the material.


Nine: Balance your reading list with a mix of academic texts and recreational novels. Engaging in diverse genres keeps your mind sharp and your reading experience fulfilling.


Ten: Don't forget, you can incorporate audiobooks and e-books into your reading repertoire for flexibility. They are perfect for multitasking or listening on-the-go. Check out the app Libby to access hundred of library books form your phone!
